Dusting the fondant keeps it from sticking to your worktable or food-decorating tools. The knob-shaped purple lid twists off the cup and pulls up the pouch with it. Then the lid screws off the white ring with the pouch so the latter is open for you to fill with your edible powder. Close the pouch by screwing it (by the ring) back on the lid, so the powder stays in the pouch as you work. A gentle tap of the pouch on your fondant releases the powder. Also prepare to smooth out buttercream or piped icing by dipping your fingertips in the pouch to coat them with cornstarch. After you've finished your powdering, screw the pouch by its ring back on the cup, and any leftover powder (a potential mess) stays inside.
