Starbucks Buys SF Bakery Chain La Boulange For $100M

The people have demanded artisanal-ish pastries and Starbucks shall heed their cries: the coffee chain has acquired San Francisco-based bakery Bay Bread and their La Boulange bakery for $100 million. That is a lot of croissants, and "over time" Starbucks intends to make the bakery's products available in its US retail outlets. For now, though, La Boulange has 19 Bay Area locations and sells some of its products to restaurants, wholesale.
